Meet Executive Director
James W. "Pete" Woods

Pete Woods is a nationally recognized advertising and marketing professional who brings over three decades of experience advising organizations on the building and nurturing of their brands to targeted audiences. In addition to extensive business experience, Woods holds a BFA in studio art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a talented sculptor in his own right. Pete and his wife Tricia reside in Mooresville, NC and have three children, Alex, Katie, and Sarah.

“I feel fully supported by The Hiddenite Center’s excellent Staff and Board of Directors as we work together to sustain the quality of programming that this region has come to know and depend upon even as we build a greater awareness for all that the organization has to offer,” Woods went on to say. “It is our obligation and our privilege to ensure that Hiddenite Center programs provide fresh and relevant arts opportunities for diverse audiences. Visit the beautifully restored, century-old Lucas Mansion; now home to a dynamic folk and cultural arts center.

The Hiddenite Center, Inc. is a folklife and cultural arts educational and exhibition center located in Hiddenite, North Carolina. A three-story Victorian house has been restored to house galleries and offices. The Center is designed to afford experiential opportunities for Western North Carolina and serves as a prism to capture the energies contained within the area. We invite you to enjoy!

Summer on the Square Free Concert

Danny Wicker, Kathy Estes, and Nathan Rash will perform with special guest Mel Jones (not shown) during the next Summer on the Square free concert, Sunday, July 27th starting at 7:30pm on the lawn of the Alexander County Courthouse in Taylorsville.

On Sunday, July 27th, The Hiddenite Center, in partnership with the Town of Taylorsville, will present the Danny Wicker Trio with special guest Mel Jones during the next Summer on the Square free concert. The concert will be held on the lawn of the Alexander County Courthouse in Taylorsville (29 West Main Ave.) starting at 7:30pm. In case of rain, the performance will be moved to The Hiddenite Center’s Educational Complex, which is located at 70 Hiddenite Church Road.) Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets for their convenience.

“Dancing at the Beach”
Hosted by The Hiddenite Center

Charismatic DJ and ballroom dance instructor, Dirk Myers, II
will provide a popular mix of music for The Hiddenite Center's "Dancing at the Beach" themed dance party
on Saturday, August 23, 2014.

On Saturday, August 23, 2014, The Hiddenite Center will host a “Dancing at the Beach” as a part of their popular series of community dance parties. This unique event will be held from 7:00pm until 10:00pm at The Hiddenite Center’s Educational Complex (70 Hiddenite Church Road). Cost for admission is only $8 per person with tax included.

Lucas Mansion Gallery Features
"Decoration Day"

The Hiddenite Center’s Lucas Mansion Gallery will feature an exhibit entitled “Decoration Day” starting Thursday, June 5th and continuing through July 31, 2014. This travelling exhibit is on loan from the Mountain Heritage Center, Western Carolina University.

The exhibit on display in the Lucas Mansion Gallery includes photographs and educational materials that tell the story of the Appalachian cultural tradition of decorating the graves of loved ones and caring for local cemeteries.
